海外に住むといつもこれはスーツケースに入れて持って帰れるか

これは本当に必要なものかと毎回考える。

When I travel to oversea, I always think is this really necessary or carriable?

日本で育ったせいか

これはこうでなくてはいけないという先入観がすごく

海外に来て別にそうじゃなくてもいいんだと驚かされることが多々ある。

I have strong prejudice in my way because I grew up in Japan.

and I often suprise that its not necessary to be in that way.

私が初めて海外に住み始めたのは23歳の頃

語学留学したニュージーランド。

My first traveling abroad for long-term was in New Zealand. 

I was 23 years old. 

そんな私の目に止まったのは語学学校の先生が引きずるように持っていたボロボロのカバン。ファスナーが壊れ、布はボロボロに破けて裏地が見えていた。

The first day of my englsih school, My Teacher was trailing her old sholder bag.

Fastener was broken, and you could see the linning.

 半年に一回は歯医者さんに行くとか、

３ヶ月に一回は美容室に行くとかみたいに、勝手に半年に一度はカバンを買い替えないといけないと思っていた私は

そのルールに反している彼女がとてもカッコよく見えたのだ。

どうして新しいのを買わないのかと聞くと

とても気に入っていて使い心地がいいらしい。

I should go to see dentist every half a year.

I should have a cut my hair once 3 months. 

Likewise, I thought I need to buy a new bag every half a year.

From my perspective, she looked so cool to me.

When I asked her if she is going to buy the new bag.

she told me that bag was her fave and its still can use.

影響を受けやすい私は彼女のようにカッコよくなりたくて

同じカバンを使い続けようと決めのだ。

始めの半年は、この人お金ないのかなとか思われるかな？

流行じゃない時代遅れだと思われるかな？

どんだけ同じカバン使うんだよって

思われるかなって思ってたけど

As I am very easy to infuence by others, I would like to be cool like her.

I decided to use the same bag for a long time.

First hlaf a year was tuff.

What if people thought that I don't have enough money to buy a new bag, or

that I have no sense of fashion, or why I was using the same bag all the time.

今思えば全部周りからどう思われるか気にしてただけなんだと今気づく。

I realized that I only cared about what other people think about me.

おっちょこちょいな私は今まで2回もカバンを盗まれたけど

それ以外のカバンは今もずっと使っている。

I keep using same bags since then except I have experienced that my bags were stolen twice in my life.

お財布もブランドものじゃないといけないと

勝手に思っていたけど

今じゃ小さなポーチをお財布代わりに使ってる。

（カバンを盗まれる可能性があるからというのもある。）

Same things for my wallet.

I had thought that I must have the high brand wallet.

Now I am using small parch instead.

(also because you never know when your wallet will be stolen again)
